Shoutbox on this forum
« on: 13 April 2011, 18:43:57 »
Hello Community.

As my nick says, I am completely new here, but I got an idea. I've noticed that many posts here are related with easy to fix problems, which could be solved if someone could use a shoutbox integrated to this forum and ask someone, who is online. If the idea has already been discussed, then sorry for "replication" ;) but I didn't find anything using searchbox and typing "shoutbox".

Regards :)

welcome to Glest, Mr. Noob,

the best way that you can get a hold of someone in real-time (like a shoutbox) is through the irc. get something like IceChat, use the Freenode server, and join #glest. usually someone is on there (although it's kinda hit or miss).

cheers!

Or if you don't want to download any thing just go to:

http://webchat.freenode.net/

And go to the #glest channel.
Get the Vbros': Packs 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5!

http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=glest  :) If you're going to discuss things more than once, I'd suggest you to download an IRC CLlient.
Most of the time, there are some people there...if not just wait up to half an hour (though usually it doesn't take that long).
Also, I wouldn't recommend icechat...it seems to have an ugly interface and kinda makes IRC look just "bad" IMO.
I recommend XChat.

For the web chat. http://chat.megaglest.org works, too.

Yep, but I think what I linked is better since 1.)#megaglest can't really be joined unless you know how 2.)the lobby isn't really for discussions. :)

This sums it up well. We have taken a look at integrating a shoutbox onto the forum, but it just didn't work out and the concept was scrapped (don't ask). The IRC is indeed the way to go and I recommend reading the Glest Wiki page on the IRC.

Welcome to Glest! :)
