[invalid] v3.50 beta 2; GameGuard very weak
« on: 19 April 2011, 15:31:50 »
v3.50 beta 2. Windows7 64 bit SP1. Videocard: GF GTX470
***
GameGuard very weak. When I tested the game on a lan, I'm easily able to hack all the resources through the most common programs and win the battle not having produced a single resource.

I just looked up the term "GameGuard", apparently this is some proprietary rootkit (!) to provide anti-cheat functionality on a single operating system. The Free Software game MegaGlest does not use, incorporate or support this software.

But I will respond more generally, since you seem to be referring to cheating / anti-cheating. Much of this will not work on a real network game. But no doubt, there are ways to cheat and there will always be. A lot of counter measures used to be in place but they also slowed down the game to a point where it became to slow to be properly playable. So it's always about finding a good middle path.

There should be some type of checking which checks for changes between mods, as you most certainly get an error if you try and play a multiplayer game without the (exact?) same files, though not sure why it didn't work for your game...

You could, but maybe that's a bad idea. People would probably keep you in their blocklist or they will block you whenever they see you...

Not the point that I hacked into the game, it can make other people. I'm just warn you that the protection is very weak.

Well, it's as I said people will block whoever that does so...and in my experience if you have the first value is bigger than the second value 99999/2000 (like that), then it kinda resets.
