CRASH - 3.5.0 Windows 7 64 Bit
« on: 23 April 2011, 01:37:28 »
While playing a 3v3 multiplayer game with Tomreyn and iant0, the game crashed about 15 minutes in. No log (didn't realize that it was defaultly disabled, sorry), though I did take a screenshot of the console window with its error in it:

It seems that it ran out of memory, but the computer has 4GB of RAM and has 2.2GB when MG is not running.

Windows 7 64 bit
ATI HD 4650 1GB
4 GB RAM
2.2GHz Intel Core2 Duo CPU

And in a new game, also 3v3, this time with Tomreyn hosting, we crashed near the end (just after I sent my hordes of 50+ units to attack :'()

Debug log: 7.33MB Compressed (don't ask about uncompressed)
Debug World log: 26 KB Compressed

No clue what went wrong in this one.

I also have Windows 7 64 Bit quad core computer , and MegaGlest 3.50 also crashed on my single player game due to a lack of memory it said. At about 15 minutes into the game. I have a ATI Radeon 5770 CARD with 1 gig of dedicated ram and my system has 8 gigs of ddr3 ram witch at the beginning of the game 6.2 gigs of the 8 gigs was free. I am not sure how to make the log of the game but this is as much information that I can give about my crash game.

I'm not exactly sure of the games we played yesterday you're referring to here, but I think it's the one where we all got out of synch to the end, playing on a somewhat larger map, with supposedly tons of units in the game (produced both by us 3 human players and the three ultra CPUs whom we attacked much too late so that they built a lot of units). I attributed the out-of-synch to the large number of units really, and to the fact that both you and I were debug logging (which slows down the game). While I did create the logs, I did not keep them since, to me, this was a normal out-of-synch situation...

Is there any chance this memory drain on version 3.5.0 will be fix as is now MegaGlest is unable to be played or at least you can't finish a single player game as is unless you can do it within the 15 minutes before the game uses up all your memory and then crashes.

Please test this binary and report back (its a 3.5.1 build, but is not the final build):

Thanks

I just got done with a 26 minute game with 8 players. Myself and 3 AI's on my team and 4 AI's on team 2. I lost but no memory problems. How long before 3.5.1 full version comes out and will this fix for the memory problem be in it? So yes this patch worked well and please keep the resources on the computer the way it is with 3.5.0 with this patch of course. It was the first 8 player single player game I've ever played where it never got choppy at all during the game. I had a max number of units in the game according to the end stats of 294 not sure if that means my side only or total units on both sides.

Thanks for the report MJR, that's valuable information to us. If softcoder is able to identify the exact cause of the memory drain you reported and is able to develop a fix (based on your report he may already have done so) then I'm sure this will be in 3.5.1. Unless new issues pop up, it's well possible (but not to be taken for granted) that 3.5.1 will be released this weekend.

Softcoder ask me to try a dev patch for the memory drain and it worked at least in my case.
