single faction in its own techtree

( Splitted by titi:  this discussion started in the japanese mod thread. it was splitted to its own topic by titi )

If it's in it's own techtree, this means it can only play against itself right?

Yep. Though, it allows expansion to another faction, and ensures balance.

I have no idea if/how it can be done on Windows, but on Linux you should be able to use links to have a single copy of a faction in multiple tech trees.  At least it works in GAE, so I assume it should work in MG. :-X

Could be so massive to load, though. And resources are a huge issue, as well as balance. If all players in a multiplayer match were different players though, the textures loaded into memory would be massive...

Well true today anyway.  There will always be computers that struggle, although the baseline average is increasing daily.

We could save buckets of RAM if we really wanted to.  After feeling around and putting forward suggestions, I've come to the conclusion that we aren't so interested as a community.  And that's probably a good call.

And resources are a huge issue,
Yes, what would be nice is a resource and armour mapping system.  So everyone can keep their techtrees, but use them as a guideline only.

as well as balance.
Balance can be tweaked, and fun can be had playing with friends despite imbalance.
