Cannot get GAE + Malevolent Rising mod to work

I tried to get the latest stable release of Malevolent Rising (mrise), version 2.0, to work with the latest GAE development code (0.3-721-gd6f50ab) today.

At first I just placed the downloaded files into the addons directory:
* MRise_CoreFiles_v2.0.7z
* MRise_Hyperion_v2.0.7z
* MRise_Necribus_v2.0.7z

Unfortunately this did not seem to do anything - "Malevolent rising" did not show up as a techtree when setting up a new (custom) game.

So I reviewed the installation instructions which recommend what I just did. As an alternative they suggest to copy Malevolent Rising data (which should be of user scope in my opinion) directly to the GAE directories (which should be of global / system scope in my opinion), overwriting existing files. I chose not to do this.

Instead I created ~/.glestae/addons/malevolent_rising_2.0/ and moved the files there, but this didn't help either.

So I unpacked all the 7-zip archives within this directory, then moved the contents of MRise_CoreFiles_v2.0/ to ./, and moved both MRise_Hyperion_v2.0/techs/mrise/factions/hyperion and MRise_Necribus_v2.0/techs/mrise/factions/necribus to ~/.glestae/addons/malevolent_rising_2.0/techs/mrise/factions and deleted the remaining empty directories (aside of empty subdirectories) which were created when unpacking these archives (MRise_CoreFiles_v2.0/, MRise_Hyperion_v2.0, MRise_Necribus_v2.0).

So I ended up with this directory structure:

Moving the previously existing (but never manually edited) ~/.glestae/widget.cfg.txt file out of the way did not make a difference.

I'm not sure whether this is an issue with the mod or the game. On a first glance, both team up in creating an unpleasant end user experience. ;-)

This is a problem caused by my mod I think but maybe also GAE... My game won't start with the latest build (v0.4beta1) unless mouse.png is in both: 'data\core\misc_textures' and 'data\gui\textures', thing is, the build I released should have two 'mouse.png's already in place.
The problem seems to be with your setup, you must replace all the original GAE files so it's better setting up a new GAE directory as this is more of a stand alone game rather than a mod.
So do this:

• Setup a brand new GAE v0.4beta setup anywhere and called it Malevolent Rising so for example 'C:\Program Files\Malevolent Rising' I'll refer to this as <root>.
• Extract 'MRise_CoreFiles.7z' into '<root>\share\glestae\', replace everything.
• Then extract in any order to faction packs (Necribus and Hyperion) into <root>\share\glestae\', merge everything, nothing should be replaced only merged.

I'll release another version of MRise_CoreFiles.7z called something like MRise_StandaloneCoreFiles.7z which will have GAE included where the faction packs can then be extracted, this way my mod is treated more as a stand alone game and there's less chances of problems.

Edit: I've updated the Releases page to be a bit more clear and in preparation for the standalone release.

I haven't had this problem before but to make sure I never do, I've converted all my mouse.png images to 64x64 moving the Move Cursor to the bottom left box just like the mouse.png in the latest GIT.

Edit: After testing it myself, I can confirm that using the addons folder with the 7zips doesn't work so they must be extracted. I'm sure I set them up correctly unless they have a load order but MRise_C comes before MRise_H and MRise_N so if alphabetically, the Core Files are rightfully loaded first anyway.

Your 7zips are probably solid. GAE does *NOT* support solid 7zips, and solid is the default, so you'll have to change this yourself. In the "add to archive..." main window, set the "Solid Block Size" to "non-solid".
