Current image from GAE (note that GAE is also capable of shading the units in the teamcolor, and even combining the outline and shading):

Eh, outlines look ugly...even if it wasn't, it's still not superior.
Oh? In what way does a circle on the ground prove superior to a tried and true outline (or shading, or both)?

those outlines - and shading too - indeed look awesomely gorgeous.

I hope MG also adopts them.

Is the outline done with a stencil buffer as Philip described for 0ad?

Bars above units are very different - and complementary - because they can also show the unit's state, making it easier to manage your team and decide who does what.

I dunno about bars. I'm happy with the "different"(ish) method of displaying health and ep that is already in use and prefer teamcolor to not affect that, but instead affect the model such as shading or outlining.

Unit outlines would look good as a selection alternative, instead of an always shown thing. I would like hp bars not to replace current system but as an optional alternative.

Agreed

That was what I originally thought about...
