Thanks to (in no order) Wciow, John RH, MuwuM & ElimiNator for your contributions

___ ABOUT ALLIANCE FACTION COLLABORATION PROJECT _____________________

Rather than assigning roles and recruiting a team, this is an open collaboration where anyone can contribute models, ideas, feedback, particles, icons, XML etc

I will be "chairman" should any decisions need to be made, but I am very open and easy going.

Everything contributed must be public domain - not that I won't give credit, but no licensing debates thanks. This is an amateur hobby mod for an open source engine, it's just for fun.

Let's discuss. Questions and suggestions welcome.

Sooooooo, whats the concept of this faction? Are they an alliance of different types of aliens? Or are they Humans?
Whats the art direction? Gameplay differences?.... Background story?

Here is a concept:

Different species new to the spaceage of their civilisation decides to colaborate in a federation, common power to help defend against other already developed "Empires" and "Federations".

I don't know if that would fit in with the other factions, I kinda like the retro feel thats happening.
Mr War already has the two main Retro-Sci-Fi cliche factions. The only one I feel is missing, is the space zombie/mutant/parasite/monster one.

You know the gluey, tentacle kind that wants to eat our brains? I'm thinking that would be the perfect third faction the pack. Can I suggest something like this instead of this "alliance" one?

Martians has a lot of those influences. Maybe add a tentical equipped melee unit to them? As long as it's weaker than chemical infantry it shouldn't affect balancing too much.

I'll have come back to respond to the other questions above...
What engine will this be for? GAE or MG?

And what will this mod be like, aliens?
politically it's not aligned to either fork, but practically it's native in MG but could be ported to GAE with necessary changes. Right now MG has some cool enhancements lined up which industarons already uses so MG is natural choice.

It can be whatever we make it. I think Alliance is good theme as can easily explain multiple species in a single faction, like humans alongside aliens etc. It's an alliance of whatever people contribute

gabbe, thanks for the logo ideas. Both are very cool man, will defo use one or both, like on the loading screen.

So, they are an Alliance of various species, clans and colonies including both human and alien. This gives them access to a range of technologies and creates diverse unit types fighting along side each other; tanks, mechs, marines, organic monsters whatever.

So the units can be diverse. To pull them together into a single fluid faction we can apply basic color-schemes. Martians are green, Industarons are red/orange/brown. So the Alliance can use BLUE PARTICLE EFFECTS with... vote...
a)  blue and yellow paint schemes
b) blue and army-green/grey paint schemes
c) yellow paint schemes
d) blue paint schemes
e) purple paint schemes
Please express a preference and be prepared to compromise if out voted

If we re-use existing models we may need to re-skin them.

I'd prefer a) (blue and yellow paint schemes). Would fit well to the very nice logo (with the 5 stars) from gabbe.

Cool that you like them, i'll improve the first one definately, and the second one after some more accurate feedback :)

I'd prefer A) aswell.

Very cool logo.

My first contribution. A basic re-build and re-skin of my unused space buggy model...

And another quick build;

Yeah nice model. The word "GUMO" suggests to me the japanese word "Kumo(Spider)". ;D

it is exactly that, in homage to Japanese Mecha genre. I think Gumo and Kumo are just alternative western spellings (see http://www.cyberoz.net/city/sekine/zukax06.htm). I will switch to Kumo spelling going forward I think as you are Japanese and you are not the first person to correct me. I was planning a whole mecha-inspired side with unit names like Kumo, Ashidaka-kumo, Mukade, Oo-Mukade, Bachi, Hibagon and stuff. But now it's just a few units in the alliance side I think.

Would this unit be acceptable for the Alliance faction?

I made this a few months back for the now defunct GIS project so it will need a bit of re-skinning into yellow/blue camo colours.

About the name, I think "Gumo" is ok.
In japanese when call generic kind of spiders use the "kumo" pronounce.
when call specific kind of spiders like "Seaka-goke gumo", "Joro gumo", etc etc... the pronouce changes to "gumo". I don't know why though. :O some kind of idiomatic.

Would this unit be acceptable for the Alliance faction?

Yes, I think it looks nice.

It looks like a big technology-fork of the alliance uses spider-vehicles... (wich is a nice idea) ... So I think we should make all spider-vehicles (maybe 3 - 5) to product of one building.

Correct. but I suggest you to go with "Gumo mech" and "Gumo tank".
"Tank gumo" sounds like it's not a tank, but a spider.
