Glest Logo Design | Some Inspiration & Sketches
« on: 1 September 2011, 20:21:52 »
Hi there, as you can see I'm new here.

I came from the Mount&Blade world, where I'm the leader of the Star Wars Conquest mod.
Just rediscovered this game... And inspired me to do some designs.

Thought that could be useful to share my early sketches.
Have fun. :)

PS: Please re-think about the merge. It's the right choice.
PS2: The Captcha thing it's extremely annoying.
PS3: And yes, the sword style is intentional.  ;)

Welcome to the Glest Boards, Swyter!

I'm not entirely sure if we have any plans really to change the logo, though the devs of the forks are always welcome to use such things. A few tips, though:
  • Release images with a transparent background, preferably in the PNG format. This makes them far more versatile.
  • Please state the license of the image, otherwise it cannot be reused by anyone without getting that information first. Common licenses here are the CC-BY-SA license (the users can modify and redistribute the image as long as credit is given and it uses a similar license; all terms can be waived with permission from the author) and the CC-0 license (public domain: do absolutely anything you want with the file).

PS2: The Captcha thing it's extremely annoying.
Perhaps, but it only appears for your first post, and serves as a second line of defense against bots. Obviously it doesn't stop all of them, but it does stop some.

CC-BY-SA will probably do the trick. Thanks for your warm welcome. I've been talking to some of the developers of the forks on IRC, they don't seem very cooperative about the merge though. It's pretty sad to see how the right decision is often the hard one.

-> Here you have a layered PSD file, you can also open it with the GIMP.

-> And the transparent one. Isn't finished at all. But looks like a good start. Isn't it?

P.S: The font is Tallys. A beautiful free one by Jos Buivenga's exljbris Font Foundry

I recommend you to use it also in-game.
Have fun.

Looks nice (but I don't expect there will be a Glest 4.0 version).

This font is free as in
* you may use it free of charge, both for non-commercial and commercial uses
* you may modify it

* you may not redistribute derivative works,
* you may not even redistribute the original work, other than for the specific use of embedding it in a web page and then only if you credit the author.

As such, it is, if this should matter, not free enough to be included in Free Software distributions, and it is not suitable for MegaGlest.
