thanks man

The boss is back in town

I think the HIND-D will complete the Soviet Faction. I plan a second Warsaw Pact faction later, with more cool kit not in this faction, but you cannot have it all in one faction.

Hi, any feedback re balancing. Ive been playing it a lot against AI and wonder if tanks and vehicles are generally too cheap? Maybe add 20 lumber (wood) and 20 metal (stone) to the cost of most vehicles on all sides.

Or is an AI tank rush of 40 tanks ok?

In other news, first US faction units now on game.

Squad of 40 Tanks sounds like the original red alert. Its should b ok as long as infantry is still useful. Would be very fun with fast build times.

yeah I'll leave it as is, only crap players like me who cannot cope.

US Faction progress

1950s medium tank with 90mm gun.
Unarmored tank killer with 90mm gun - used as light tank
1960s main battle tank. armed with British 105mm rifled cannon
1970s prototype flak tank with twin 40mm guns. Ultimately unsuccessful and cancelled in 1980s.

are the mgs on the tanks usable, also, how much experimental tech is there? Have you considered adding the SU-100 to the rusky faction, it served well into the 70's and 80's

Not currently. Considered giving the Soviet tanks a secondary light AAA capability but it'd complicate balancing. In general the AI does not cope with secondary weapons so whatever they are, they should be lesser than the primary one. Same goes for coaxils etc. Only the Hind currently has secondary weapons (ATGMs are secondary to rockets)

how much experimental tech is there?
Quite a bit, both to fill gaps and because there are some cool 'what if' units. But overall people with some familiarity of the nations military should recognize the bulk of the units. In French faction I used cancelled/experimental types like AMX-50 and SE44000 instead of the equivalent real-world types (M47, Hawk) because they are French in origin not imported. For Soviets I used IT-1 instead of T-62 because the T-62 is too much like the T-55 and T-64. And in USA I'm using T249 Vigilante *Cooler than M113 VADS), M247 Sgt York (build limit of 1), MBT-70 and Cheyenne helicopter.

Have you considered adding the SU-100 to the rusky faction, it served well into the 70's and 80's
Considered but not room for it really. ISU-152K is somewhat similar, just massively bigger. There is room for another Warsaw Pact side so maybe there, but ultimately we can't have every unit in existence, we have to remember balancing and playability

Another addition. I wanted to have quad 0.50cal but I think Vulcan is generally better known and considered cooler, a must-have. If there is ever an Israeli faction they had the TCM-20 which is visually similar anyway

Thanks. I just found the coolest back music to replace the US National anthem in this faction.
(click to show/hide)

More units..
US basic infanteer with M16 rifle. Slight advantage in flack Jacket type armor.

Better armed infantry with M203 grenade launcher slung under M16. M16 is secondary weapon. Camouflage is Vietnam war tiger stripes

Standard 155mm artillery piece. Same specs as equivalent Soviet (Grad MLRS) and French (F3) units

Deceptively pedestrian looks hide a monster. Modified M113 APC with napalm tanks in the passenger space and powerful flame thrower - 200m for 32 seconds. "Zippo" is nickname for this and other Vietnam-era flame tanks in reference to the cigarette lighters.

WW2 super-heavy assault gun designed for invasion of Germany, only very limited service. Weighs 95 tons and has four tracks. Heavy armor but slow and soon out-classed by post-war designs.

Awesome! Cant wait to play! :D  No TOW Rocket or Stinger Missile Infantry?

Also crazy Idea what about M1 Abrams as a late tier "secret weapon"  Its was being developed in the late cold war, even though it wasn't used till the gulf war.

I would like that for the whole tech  :P

My tech tree kinda ends at 1980 just because I think that later units like abrams, apache, leopard 2, are just too strong to balance easily. But maybe allow US player to have 1 xm1 Abrams prototype just like sgt York.

There will be US manpads and ATGW, I just haven't added them yet.

My tweaks to US faction line up are making an Israeli faction more appealing as the difference to the US faction could be greater.

But also have UK, west Germany and Swedish factions planned so too much work ahead. Might stick to just these three factions.

M60 upgrade with missile-gun. Camo is not 'digital', but a 1970s urban scheme sometimes used by US forces in west Germany.
prototype only. 105mm gun but chobham armor and good speed.

Thanks man. I hadn't noticed anything playing it so I wonder whether correcting it suddenly changes my balances ;)

Fortunately I created the xml using my balancing tool so easy to fix. Here's the correction, just cut and paste over existing xml - suggest doing it in Notepad

Nearly ready for beta of US Faction.

Final units,...
First generation man=portable SAM, older brother of Stinger. Soldier can also engage ground targets with M16
Utility helicopter modified to gunship - armed with mini-guns
Proper gunship with TOW anti-tank missiles

Idea: have sherridan tanks morph into a chinook heli carrying the sherridan. Have them be a week but be able to be airlifted anywhere!

No jeeps?

That was sorta like my idea for the ASU, which I made a model for but when my flash drive broke, I lost the model and don't have the time to replace it. I think such a morph would be pretty cool

I'm not a fan of the sheridon, it's a lame unit. I had replaced it in the line-up with a zippo flamethrower, whereas the starship M60A2 has the same missile system.

But this idea is really cool. Might add it after first release as takes a lot of effort to model that sort of a transition.

There's no use for a jeep but gama goat makes it in as the supply truck

There could be, the jeep could be upgradeable recon unit, the basic one would be .30 cal armed with wide sight radius and could be upgraded with a reccoilless rifle, rockets or .50cal, if the .50cal is chosen it can also get the armored jeep upgrade to make it a jeep like the one used by the 101st airborne. this would make the jeep have a combat and recon role like it should have.

The sheridan wouldn't necessarily be so bad, and neither would a PT-76 which I don't think you included, or an ASU

challenge is balancing, if we keep adding units the AI doesn't build a balanced side or will overlook some types. I already use a lot of morphing to increase the mix, but reluctant to add too many units in any side. I have already ditched Chaparral, Cheyenne, Vigilante, Dragon ATGW etc

US military isn't really known for using the jeep for much other than utility transport really anyway. They did use them not much compared to British use of for patrol (/land rovers)

Menu model for standalone release (pending MG 3.5.3)
