Brightness
« on: 9 October 2011, 10:39:45 »
Is there a way to change the game's brightness settings except editing tilesets xml?
In general I feel glest's brightness setting is a bit too dark.

Yes, I also think that brightness is a problem. Especially in windows its very obviously( and different from linux ).
I personally have no idea how to fix it  :'(

In other games I saw something like alpha correction maybe we have to look at this ( and put it in the options )
Try Megaglest! Improved Engine / New factions / New tilesets / New maps / New scenarios

Huh? How's it differ?

For some part, the night setting on many tilesets seems a bit too low.

in windows all tilesets and especially the night are a lot darker. This is the way on all systems I have seen! ( I saw MG on round about  5 windows systems and on round about 10 linux systems yet).

I'm not running linux but annex and chasm appear bright on my old xps laptop but almost impossible to see on my macbook. My current computer is also on brighter end but not as bright as xps. This makes it near impossible to judge how bright / dark they should be.  I would really appreciate a sort of brightness slider and a contrast one.

Indeed, when it comes night part it's really hard to see anything in display. also I think if there was a "disable nighttime" setting in game setup menu, would come in handy.

Thank you for the answer! I'm looking forward to brightness option.

SDL_SetGamma might be useful?

Might be disabled in linux if the app is launched in windowed mode, for reasons stated in docs

I agree this would be nice to have, and Gamma correction seems like the common way to achieve it. It should be a game-wide setting placed in options using a scroll bar which changes the current gamma correction factor (which should be printed on screen, too).

We really should have some sort of setting that could change brightness, gamma. Running on mac is significantly darker than running on windows...

Almost every game I have (I think every 3D one) has a brightness setting in the options menu (and contrast). Why not MegaGlest?
