[fixed] headless server: not displayed on masterserver
« on: 13 November 2011, 21:30:21 »
hey

i experienced that if everyone leaves a game on a dedicated server, it is sometimes not published anymore on the masterserver (althougth you can still join over ip). i wanted to check whether it still sends packages, but --verbose with the server is just insane (got a 30mb log in a couple of minutes).

this is a serious problem  for servers which are sometimes not checked for days.

I've also observed this. When this occurs, no more inocoming requests can be observed on the master servers' logs i.e. it seems that the game no longer sends HTTP requests when this happens.

Treba, you later wrote this on IRC, do you still think this is the case?

<treba> i think we found the problem with the master server
<treba> it seems to happen when everyone who was on the server leaves without starting the game

Try svn rev 2801 to see if this is resolved

can't reproduce it anymore in the moment (nor on the current svn nor on beta)
i will have an eye on the server. normally, the engineer server should be always online from now on. if it's not at some point, than the bug might have occured again.

The 'summoner' server (beta1 release) failed to get listed some minutes ago. Connecting my MG client to it, starting + quitting a game worked around the bug (which is now probably fixed in subversion). When beta2 is available we can do more testing to see whether this fixes this issue.

ok, this time i got something new: engineer1 does not get listed anymore (but is running), while engineer2 is still ok. as both are running on the same server, same user, even same gamedata just with different setting files, this was probably not from a network issue but in internal bug.
the last logged thing is the shutdown of the server after a game with only one faction was played, which ended instantly. maybe the masterserver does not accept a new game directly after one was just set to "in progress"?

There was a ~45 minutes masterserver outage today. Chances are one of the games ended while the master was down and this gameserver then failed to get relisted.
