New default font?

As you all know we still have a problem with the slightly transparent fonts. As we obviously cannot fix it ( at the moment ) we started to think about using a bold font as default font, because it looks whiter and is more easy to read ( for me ).

This is the same font, but with bold,
which would look like the following. What do you think, better? (

The font still looks smeared, but its a little better i recon, but it needs a proper fix.

Most games draw the text five times; they draw it in black to the left, to the right, slightly above and slightly below, and finally draw the main text in the right place in white.

@will: Thats what i did too! But drawing everything twice already had a big effect on the fps! Thats why I did not do it :/

for example options menu with my video card ( 9600GT):

single text rendering: 248 fps
double rendering: 197 fps

so round about a loss of 50fps just for white and clear fonts!

as long as this fps drop is only in the menu but i doubt it was confined to menu right?

Yes, its maybe not 50 fps in the game, but still a lot (>30 fps)

Ok added another font renderer (freetype-gl) and the fonts no longer look blurry. Also users can load (from commandline) using the standard ISO639-1 language code to start MG in their native language:

megaglest --use-language=zh

Would be for chinese.

Beta2 coming soon once i talk to titi.

Edit by Omega: Typo fix. I don't think "megalgest" would fair well on the command line
