Idea:
What if every MG faction had a special unit called a "General", or a name with something to the same effect, that could be produced for a high price?
Theoretically, this "General" unit could be assigned to a group of units to 'command'. This could then enhance his assigned units tactical abilities, by assigning them attack formations, defensive formations, movement formations, spread formations, unit guarding, etc; through the use of an exclusive unit menu for the "General". This unit could also 'upgrade' the AI of certain units that it commands, but only while they are under his command.
For example, the Tech team's Battle Machines do not use their ranged fire-arrow attack unless commanded to do so. And, when in too close of range of the enemy, they do not switch from the fire-arrow attack, to the melee attack. The "General" unit, could implement an AI for the Battle Machines. When in defensive formation, this would enable them to attack with fire-arrows when in a certain range, and to use the melee attack when attacked in close range. In attack formation, the AI would be about the same as usual, but just with better formations. (IDK if the defensive formation AI would be all that good, since Tech does have archers already, but it's an idea.)
The "General" unit could also be assigned to air units, so that they could be 'called in' to attack specified targets with the click of a button on his exclusive unit menu. The "General" unit's abilities could be limited at the beginning of his use, but later be expanded by incrementally 'ranking up'; when his units achieve a certain amount of kills.
When it comes to unit selection, the "General" could be assigned to a hotkey, and thus auto-select all of his assigned units automatically.
Well, that's all I've got so far on this idea. Yes, I understand this would take a lot of work to implement, and it would change gameplay drastically, but I think it's worth a shot.
