Author Topic: [not a bug] v3.6.0, radeon: Mouse clicks are registered at bottom of screen  (Read 2161 times)

Edit (tomreyn): Similar reports: one, two

Hi I am having some issues with character movement and couldn't find a solution googling or searching this forum.

When I click on a resource, character, or existing building everything works as it should. However if I click on empty space to build something, set rally point,  or just to move the character then the click will register to the bottom edge of the screen instead of where I actually clicked.

I am running Arch Linux 64bit  and it is up to date. I had the same problems on this machine using Fedora16 as well.

Sounds like a buggy driver. Unfortunatley you're not providing anywhere close to enough information to make a more educated guess. See the sticky thread in the bug reports forums for hints on what information to provide.

Thanks let me know if anything else is needed

-Operating System: Arch Linux 64bit
-Graphics Card:  ATI Technologies Inc 760G [Radeon 3000]
-Normal resolution of the monitor: 1600x900

The only setting I changed was the resolution to 1600x900 but It does the same thing at the default resolution.

Edit (Omega): Removed spoiler tag. Combined with code tags makes crappy formatting bugs.

The information you provide on your PCI devices is definitely detailed now. :)
Some more basic information is missing though:
  • Which version of MegaGlest and Arch Linux are you running?
  • How much RAM is available for MegaGlest to work with (i.e. total physical RAM minus what operating system and other running processes consume)?
  • Which CPU does this computer have?
Please also run this in the MegaGlest installation directory and paste its output here, wrapped in a code tag (use the # button while editing your post):
./start_megaglest --opengl-info

And please try whether running the game like this helps:
./start_megaglest --disable-vbo

I have 8GB installed. System monitor shows 1.4GB of 7.6GB is used

Please see my edited post above.

The issue you are describing seems known to me. I think I used to have this once with an integrated Intel GPU and unstable drivers. I think this was a MESA issue then, so this may also be the case for you. Can you check whether this issue also occurs for others who use Arch 2011.08.19 and the radeon drivers with OpenGL software? Alternatively, you could test your hardware and graphics issue against an alternative, well tested combination of X, mesa and the radeon drivers (such as an Ubuntu 11.10 live CD-ROM)?

Another option is to wait for Softcoder to come up with a better way to help you analyze this issue (he often has a more targetted approach there than I do).

There is a way to use the normal operating system mouse. Try this to see if it solves the problem:

start the game as you normally would. At the start of the game (after launching it) press the / key and it till toggle to normal Operating system mouse. Then see if clicking works?

Switching the mouse curso made no difference.
I tried LinuxMint 12 live cd and the games plays properly in it. What should I be comparing between it and my ArchLinux install to find the culprit?

Hi there,

just wanted to let you know that i noticed the same behavior on one of my arch machines when i switched the graphics driver from catalyst/fglrx to radeon. So my guess would be that there is a bug in the newer radeon drivers since op mentiond that it also wasn't working for him on the new fedora.

@brodix: did you try downgrading the radeon driver?
+ im pretty sure that it should work with the catalyst one so you might try it that way.

It is also possible that this is an SDL bug: Try add this in start_megaglest script before the game launches:

export SDL_MOUSE_RELATIVE=0

(found this bug report here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glest/+bug/521893)

anything
