Cannot find .INI file in Linux
« on: 23 January 2012, 12:43:48 »
I can almost hear the groans, but...  I've just installed Ubuntu 11 to see if the Linux version of GAE runs any faster than under Windows. I've spent the last hour - seriously! - searching these forums, the Wiki (why isn't it shown here?) and Google, trying to find where the .ini file for GAE is in the Linux file system. I've searched for files on my drive too, but guess it's not named the same as in Vista..?  Help, Mr. Wizard.

It is hidden in your home folder. Navigate to your home directory and enable hidden files. It should be in .glestadv.

Ye gods! Thanks John. Something so simple can become a nightmare, eh? Maybe I should add something for newbies to the Wiki? I don't want to go in rampantly adding stuff when others have worked so hard to get the Wiki the way they want it, so if anyone has a few words of advice then do shout out. (I'm aware that adding things people will want to edit anyway is just a waste of their time).

Already there. Thanks though. On a side note, you never have to "ask" to edit the wiki, just jump in and do it (it's not necessary, but I'd recommend you create an account there). Even if you screw up, I usually spot it within hours, and if something goes horribly wrong, you can revert your edit from the history screen (in the drop down box from the "edit button").

Cheers Omega. I've added a note to the page you linked to.

I tried to open an account on the Wiki as Kiko, but it said someone had already registered that name. ("Who are you, interloper? I will send my armies against you, dressed as Samurai with a side helping of Shinobi!")

The accounts are Wikia wide, with several hundred thousand pages across hundreds of sites. An account that works on the Glest Wiki, for example, could also be used on the Elder Scrolls Wiki. Four letter names are as rare as 2 cent Large Queen on laid paper stamps.
