Export Plugin Critical Problem[SOLVED]
« on: 1 March 2012, 08:49:22 »
I followed the post by Softcoder on how to install the g3d converter word by word. Used Blender 2.61(getting lost, it's so different).
I used the exporter and... boom GAE g3d viewer crashes, MG g3d viewer throws typical generic error message, then another more specific one:
"Error building texture 2d mipmaps, returned:100901 <FILE LOCATION> ] w = -1, h = -1, glCompressionFormat = 32832"

Files and g3d that crashed: http://www.sendspace.com/file/q9w7cd
PS: If you can get it working...you can have it! (Just credit me please)

I have MG version 3.6.0.3.

Anything else you need to know let me know! :P

Sounds like a texture is in an incompatible format? Are you able to see any filenames mentioned in the log? You could try running g3dview with the commandline option --verbose and see if it offers any additional useful info.

It's an uncompressed TGA. If you check the file I posted it's the swordman texture for magitech.

By the way, I'm on Windows. I tried running "g3d_viewer.exe", it opens. Tried it with "--verbose" on the end and nothing happens.

I'd really like to be able to export working g3ds here..... I wanna animate a bunch of stuff, all of it will be available for use in mods or maybe in Mega(Glest/Pack) updates.

Definitely something wrong with your g3d file. I can open the spearman_walking.g3d but only the helmet and spear show up (untextured) and g3d runs really slow reporting that there are 23 MILLION!!! triangles!

I re-linked the texture and exported the model myself (under linux). At first I got the same texture error mentioned above so I re-exported the texture without compression through gimp.

I now have the following error from G3d Viewer

Well I guess I should post the history of the model.
-Imported into Blender 2.46 on desktop
-Modeled spear and helmet in
-Transfered to laptop with Dropbox
-Grabbed a copy of Blender 2.46 with g3d plugin installed from dropbox.
-Went to export and it gave me an xml at which point I couldn't get anywhere. It never gave me xmls, I always used to get g3ds.
-Decided I'd get the latest and greatest on g3d exporting...
-Got Blender 2.61
-Followed instructions on how to install im/exporting tools
-Exported, and got this one hell of a messed up g3d.
By the way, it WAS saved in Blender 2.61(and worked on some) after being worked on in blender 2.46. Would that be a problem?

Edit: I did specifically save the texture uncompressed twice after seeing the texture compression error...

Many of the models in the current Solunar release were originally made in 2.49 and recently modified and re-exported in 2.6, so I'm inclined to think that wouldn't have much bearing on it.

Do you have the most current export script from a few weeks ago?  Does the model work with a different texture?  Does that texture work with a different model?  What happens when you export it as another format (e.g. *.obj)?  Are you able to export any of the mesh objects individually with success?

I actually don't know how to change the texture in 2.61, it's completely different...
I'll mess around for a bit trying a few of those things you mentioned.

Things mostly just look different or aren't where you expect, but the actual functionality is pretty similar.

... err, I guess you got it while I was posting this. lol
