To zoom in and out scroll the middle mouse button (hold it down while scrolling)

All questions about GAE would need to be answered by members of that team.
Thanks

GAE map editor crashes if I try to make a map larger than 512x256. So I was wondering if I could use the MG map editor to make a map as long as it only had 4 players and then run the map in GAE.
Not sure what you really mean here but, In case you don't know the map editor on mg can be used for both gae an mg, and both support 8 player maps. I don't see why someone would have to make a map on one then re edit on another.

Yes GAE has 8 player support.

As far as i know Both GAE and MG are based on the standard glest map editor so they should have same interface. So I don't see any reason why one would be more confusing or less confusing than the other. Either way I don't see why GAE map editor would not support makeing 8 player maps.

Fyi 5-8 player maps use .mbm format while 1-4 player maps use .gbm format. This is due to how the original .gbm maps were designed.

You must have some really old GAE map editor. It's essentially the same as the MG editor now, except for a slightly more graphic GUI and the lack of cliff support (although the engine itself doesn't support true cliffs, anyway). The GAE editor has supported 8 players for quite a while. I dunno what program you're using, but be sure you have the most recent version of the map editor.

I dunno what version of the map editor was bundled with that, but that's really weird, because the version I'm talking about was built December 2010.

At any rate, here's a download for just that map editor: http://www.mediafire.com/?m3tn91auv4wqrnv

As i remeber you need to save it in the correct map format, otherwise it can only support 4 players.

that also only has 4 players dude.
Oops. In the edit menu, choose "reset players", type "8", and close the popup window. Now you should be able to use 8 players. As for saving as MGM, in the save dialogue, there's a drop down box that will say GBM. Open the drop down box and choose MGM

It will not let me save in mgm. However your other thing totally worked. Thanks. I can now use 8 players.
What do you mean it doesn't let you save in MGM? You have to, to be able to actually keep those eight players, anyway. Can you be more descriptive, pictures, etc?
