Problem with Configure

I am using Fedora Core 3 and have problems for compiling glest. I have installed all the required packages. But configure fails while testing xerces-c. Xerces-c is installed on my machine.

I have seen there has alrdy been a similar problem presented in the forum, but the version of configure script is not the same: http://www.glest.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=728

Anyone has already encountered the same problem and/or has a solution?
