shadow quality
« on: 24 July 2012, 20:32:31 »
hey guys!

i think there was a request in this direction before, but i can't find it.
anyway, i just realised again that the shadow quality has a high impact on the graphical experience.
annex (for linux) comes with a texture size of 256 and a frameskip of 5. i guess that's meant to keep the game fast, but it's ugly as hell.
megaglest comes with 512/2 and i personally prefere 1024/1.

now i would like to suggest to add an option to change the quality within the game, as many people don't want to tune their settings in the ini files.
maybe three options with the values from above, simply named low/medium/high?

I agree a slider would be great for editing shadow resolution/frame skip. Only issue would be that options menu is getting a bit crowded now :(

Yes Annex uses a much lower shadow resolution, as the game its-self uses a more resources than MegaGlest. Also Annex has darker shadows so its much more noticeable than MegaGlest.

For the shadow texture size there is already a switch in the options...
I will try if shadow frameskip is also important enough for the options menu ( my current point of view is that its not worth it )
Try Megaglest! Improved Engine / New factions / New tilesets / New maps / New scenarios
