hi there,

setting:
PC1: debian linux 64-bit, installed from installer (not .deb)
PC2: windows7 64-bit
connection via wifi-router
same megaglest version (3.6.0.3)

if PC2 is hosting a LAN game everything is fine.
if PC1 is trying to host, MegaGlest freezes after about 10 secondes in the host menu.

in verbose mode last action (seems to be the reason) is, MegaGlest detects the windows media server and tries to connect via upnp.
deny the windows media server in windows firewall seems to solve the problem.

if asked for i can reproduce the verbose message, could take awhile cause the windows7 pc is not mine.(not available all time)

Thanks for your report, GoodOldBrian. Are you referring to Microsoft Media Server, a network protocol, or to Windows Media Services, a streaming media server?

I'm also not exactly sure about the architecture you are describing: are both systems in the same (wireless) LAN, connected to each other and the Internet through a single wireless router?

If you could provide instructions on setting up a copy of the Windows system causing this issue, this would be appreciated. Alternatively, if you can reproduce this issue with --verbose options and network debugging active this would be appreciated.

Please post the contents of the verbose output and even in glestuser.ini set:

DebugNetwork=true

and post the contents of debug.log

Thanks

As an update, I've e-mailed GoodOldBrian, hoping he'll get back to us this way.

yes, both are connects via wifi.

i think the windows media service is causing the problem.

i tried to reproduce the error a little bit, but i was not able to do so, but i got a similar verbose message. might help!

Code: [Select]
UPnP discover returned upnp_error = 0.
UPnP device search finished devlist = 0x4fbf3a0.
UPnP discover deviceList [upnp:rootdevice].
UPnP device found: http://192.168.1.2:2869/upnphost/udhisapi.dll?content=uuid:1ebce91e-b939-4beb-b97d-8717505d8b3d upnp:rootdevice

last time that was the last line. after that glest freezed.

so, this config (http://192.168.1.2:2869/upnphost/udhisapi.dll?content=uuid:1ebce91e-b939-4beb-b97d-8717505d8b3d) is causing no problems. the xml file says
Code: [Select]
<modelName>Windows Media Player</modelName>
the config file which caused the problem last time said
Code: [Select]
<modelName>Windows Media Server</modelName> or something like that.

actually i have no idea why i can't get the windows media service to show up. i did no special changes to the windows7 pc.

Thanks for your feedback, GooldOldBrian.

You may subscribe to a topic, then you will get e-mail notifications on new posts.

My understanding is that you are currently unable to reproduce this issue. Please report back should this change in the future. You are also welcome to try tp reproduce it on a ready-made Windows development snapshot or build one yourself (this also works for Linux).

Finally, if this happens again to you, and you have reported back your findings already, then you can work around the UPnP automatism by setting DisableUPNP=true it in glestuser.ini. You'll then need to set up port forwarding in your router to be able to host.
