Transifex is updating fine, but the in-game download of the translations from Transifex does not work. I just poofread my translations in Transifex, but the changes didn't show up in-game. I did go into options and downloaded again, and it told me the download was successful.

I just double-checked, the tick in the "Advanced translation" always disappears, seems like the settings doesn't stick. Should we split these posts into a bug report?

Please run the game from a terminal window / from a command line, capture its verbose output and post that. This process is explaind in the FAQ (advanced section). Also, please check whether the files are created / updated on your system when you download them. This feature is clearly not generally broken since downloading the files from Transifex using the options menu does work here.

After download, do you get a message window reporting that download was successfull? Which two letter language code are you using? Are your Transifex credentials correct?

I just double-checked, the tick in the "Advanced translation" always disappears, seems like the settings doesn't stick. Should we split these posts into a bug report?
This is intended. Credentials entered on the options screen aren't stored (for security reasons, but read the Translations page on the wiki on how to store it nevertheless), and that's the "advanced translation" checkbox is just about displaying / not displaying the extra options and so its value is not stored either. If you would like the value of this checkbox stored, please file a feature request.

There was a bug (for gaelic, scotish) due to the name of the files it was trying to produce. This should be fixed in svn (update your binary to the nightly version on treba's server: http://w32.nightly.megaglest.org/)

Thanks

Thanks, I'll check it out and report back on the fix.

I can't follow the command line instructions because I'm on Windows 7.

I got the nightly build, but it's still not working. File date for gaelic.lng remains 24/10/2012 06:00 in spite of the success message (I'm on UTC).

Is there a way to coax more info for you out of the system on Windows?

ETA: found the instructions, but did not find a Megaglest folder in AppData. So, here's what I could copy from the command line output. Hope it helps.

Where is the gaelic.lng stored? Full path please. The transifex downloader will not overwrite existing language files which are part of your MegaGlest installation, but create additional files in %Appdata%\megaglest\.

Is there a way to coax more info for you out of the system on Windows?

ETA: found the instructions, but did not find a Megaglest folder in AppData.

Open an Explorer (the file browser, not the web browser) window, click on the location button on top which should then change into a text input field.

Then type this and press enter:
%Appdata%\megaglest\

You should now be on the MegaGlest user data directory. If you previously ran the Transifex downloader you should find a 'data' subdirectory there, and in there all the latest translations from Transifex (in various subdirectories).

"ETA" means "estimated time of arrival" to me, what does it mean to you?

Thanks. I'm afraid it doesn't, but let's gorget about this part for now. Instead, please answer these questions:
After download, do you get a message window reporting that download was successfull? Which two letter language code are you using?

Thanks.

On an unrelated side note: some of your translations didn't make it into beta2 because I missed them. They'll be in the release, though.

The name of the language will be gaelic_scotish (two words with and underscore). Please change to that language while testing after download.

Thanks, these were the hints that I needed :D

The file in the game install directory is called gaelic.lng, and the file in Appdata is called gaelic, scottish.lng. So, I needed to switch languages after the download.

I think we should move this conversation now, so we won't confuse the other translators?

And just a suggestion: Why not call it by its ISO code, gd.lng? If all languages are assiigned by their ISO codes, confusions like this are unlikely to happen in the future. This would also give us consistency with language names in Transifex.

I think reading this thread is going to be helpful for the other translators, too. I do agree it's better to have this very issue discussed separately, though, so I've split it now. Thanks for this suggestion.

Good suggestion. Softcoder and I discussed this some days ago, and this may be done for next but one release. It would be a bad time to introduce such a big change right now (so close to a release).
