Model request & 3ds help
« on: 10 November 2012, 19:33:11 »
Hello everybody, i know i was disapared for long time and now i'm back asking for help.
I haven't modeled for about 2 yrs and i'm trying to learn about webgl, when i export a model from 3ds max in obj or js i have a model without textures and without animations. So also if i'm able to use it in webgl is useless.
My questions are... can i export an animation in obj format? and the texture? if the answer is yes..can someone send me 1 model for try it in webgl?
If someone use 3ds max can explain me how to export it in 3ds coz seems the export to obj don't work as expected.
Thx a lot to everybody.

Ps. Anyone has ever thinked about develop glest in webgl?

Welcome back!

No, the obj format does not support animations at all (I'm afraid I'm going to have to be a little blunt and say that you could have found that very easily by googling "obj animation"). Textures should work fine, and I have no idea why your textures aren't working, though they most likely aren't linked properly to the model (I have no experience with 3DS Max, however, although Blender generally requires an extra step for textures to be exported correctly attached to the model). Another possibility is that the exporter isn't correctly configured for exporting textures (though again, I have no idea how 3DS Max handles textures or exporting).

WebGL supports the MD2 format, which would work well (it's a skeletal format). A possibly useful alternative that I've heard of but never tried is this, no idea how it works, and Blender only, but seems to export a WebGL compatible model (or script?). Never used WebGL myself, just Googling here ;).

Hello Omega and thx a lot for the reply, yea after posting i found that obj don't support animations, i figured to use the js format, now i will look at the md2 exporter, it would be nice if the g3d could be used for webgl as well lol
Anyway i'm trying to take rid of this problems. I want try to do it coz of a game that i saw drakensang, have u seen it?
