If I recall correctly, DirectSound support was removed and OpenAL support is now the only supported audio layer.

As a result, you may have an outdated glestuser.ini file, so I recommend you rename or delete it so that a new one will be created.

Tomryen is correct. If you don't know how to edit the ini file mentioned by tomeryen you can run megaglest with this parameter (from commandline):

--disable-sound

This will allow the game to start and you can then go into the options menu and change the sound system to OpenAL ansd save it.

Thanks

That's the sound and music selection box top left on the options screen.

I'm tagging this thread "invalid" since it's not really a bug. We aren't providing a user-friendly upgrade there, though, so might need to add such as hint to documentation / release notes. But then, I wonder whether anyone would read those.

I have deleted the glestuser.ini file and the game works now, thanks tomreyn and softcoder.

I got this going from 3.7.0 to 3.7.1. Did just install, got this error, then tried uninstall - installl. No joy.

Found this thread, deleted glestuser.ini from folder c:\Users\<username>\Appdata\Roaming\megaglest and now works fine.

Regards
