[SOLVED] Critical OpenGL Issue, cannot play!
« on: 15 December 2012, 05:39:15 »
Version 3.7.1

Code: [Select]
[2012-12-15 00:34:49] Runtime Error information:
======================================================
Your system supports OpenGL version "1.1.0"
MegaGlest needs a version that supports
glActiveTexture (OpenGL 1.3) or the ARB_multitexture extension.
Stack Trace:
00000000 00000000 00000000 9a665fd7 ZwGetContextThread!ntdll (null)(0) +18
00000000 00000000 00000000 9a665fd7 ZwGetContextThread!ntdll (null)(0) +18

I'm using a 5850 mobility radeon, this makes no sense. I just updated the graphics drivers. Can I download opengl 1.3?  :-\

This message indicates that your system is doing software rendering because initialization of hardware accelerated rendering failed. This typically means that your video drivers aren't working properly, or, more precisely, the 3D hardware acceleration part of them does not work. I.e.: fix your dirvers, or you won't be able to do anything which requires hardware acceleration.

I've completely flushed the graphics drivers and installed the latest. I have no idea what could possibly be wrong now.

I'm afraid we won't be able to guide you through the process of setting up your drivers on your operating system in detail. But you can easily test whether or not it's just an issue with MegaGlest or your system in general by trying some other applications which require OpenGL support. I'm predicting that none of them will work at this time.

Since this is likely not a bug in MegaGlest, I'm moving this topic to the general MegaGlest forums.

I've managed to accidentally recreate this issue on my desktop!  :P
It occured when I changed my glest.ini file from default to:
Code: [Select]
; === propertyMap File ===
; This file defines default properties and values. Do not edit this file,
; instead, to modify, copy any properties to glestuser.ini, then change these as
; needed. Values contained in glestuser.ini will overwrite values found here.

; For explanation of these properties, please refer to the MegaGlest wiki at

I'll go try this on my laptop.

Maybe quoting what you quoted will help you read it. ;-)

Code: [Select]
; === propertyMap File ===
; This file defines default properties and values. Do not edit this file,
; instead, to modify, copy any properties to glestuser.ini, then change these as
; needed. Values contained in glestuser.ini will overwrite values found here.
;
; For explanation of these properties, please refer to the MegaGlest wiki at
; http://wiki.megaglest.org/

http://wiki.megaglest.org/INI has an explanation of the ColorBits option.

Generally, when you change options by manually editing your INI file and MegaGlest does not work afterwards but did work before, then this should give a hint as to what caused it not to work. So be careful there. Generally, anything you can set on the GUI (options menu) should be fine, but changes to INI values can be problematic, so be sure to test them immediately after changing them, and roll them back if needed.
