Auto explore
« on: 20 May 2013, 14:09:16 »
One of the most annoying and soliciting moments is when at the start of a game, you have to work hard to establish as many units as possible, and at the same time explore the map so you know where resources and enemies are located. Exploring is upsetting because you must constantly select an unit and click in the black spaces, in between visiting units and buildings to give new orders.

Could an auto explore command be added please? Consisting of a button on any moving unit, which when clicked causes the unit to go around the map and explore the area. It would make things a bit easier and less soliciting.

And how would be explore path pattern look like? Where to scout first and where later? What about if the map is already explored (but still with fog of war)?

In the civilization series, auto-explore works by plotting out places where fog of war is still present and navigating towards them. If, once fog of war is clear, that it is evident that a portion of the map is inaccessible, the pathfinder gives up. If there are no fog of war left or no accessible patches of fog, the command is toggled off and no longer does anything. Such a system could work for MegaGlest (perhaps hinting the first place to look would be the corners of the map).

I remember this way it worked in Rise of legends.
