Hello Friends!  :(

I got an Idea for an new Tech tree Faction: Nature Faktion

they got druids, build everything out of Wood an Stone, and growing
things like Carnivorus Plants, whiping thorns a.m.m.

They need just like the mages, energy sources, only they are Big Plants, with Big leaves, the produce Sunlight as an energy source.

It beginns with a Druid (just the same like Initate only with a other Spell: i cant find a name for it, it could be a big root what digs thro the ground, then slashes the Enymy) then it can Build a Botanic Garden, that Produces tree spirits andother Plant units, then you can build the Stone Mage Tower what can produce Golems (very expensive), then you can build the Pond of Growth, that makes all plant units stronger, you can later build (or better seed) the Oak house what is an Big Oak that you can comparison with a Balistic Tower because it shoots Acorns...

so i hope its a good idea and become into Glest...
(sorry sorry for bad spelling)

I thought for a new faction being part of the Glest universe, too.
But your idea is very interesting and maybe I would help realizing it.

Same here, I started on a new faction as well. I made a start with the architecture and XML files, but got bored when texturing a new building I modelled...

The faction doesn't differ too much from your idea really, and I'm willing to help if needed (with XML and modelling). And there are plenty of ideas here. :)

Yes, I agree with you eddy. The only difficult think by producing 3D-objects is texturing and maybe animation.
To build models for games like glest needs maybe 15 minutes for more or less complex models. But for the rest I normaly need a couple of hours.

Well, I think I have adequate equipment for voice acting at hand. I doubt I'm much of a voice actor though. ;)

Soo... Any texturers around?

look, dont think it will be easy, ok? making something is quite difficult, especially on computer. you can make textures quite easily, but the modells, and the moves... well that is the hard part of it. plus you need to balance it to the other two factions.

Yes, that is nice. Now go away from the geometric forms. It is the next step called meshmodelling.
Those you use for almost every kind of 3D. And after that you can start to make uvws and then texturing.
But just a remark.
I used a lot of different programs and at start milkshape, too.
But it has a lot of limitations and it cost money after a trial.
So you should  maybe change to blender. It is absolutely free. http://www.blender.org .
Here is the biggest german Blendercommunity: http://blendpolis.serverpool.org/f/blender.php
and some starting-tutorials for example: http://de.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_Dokumentation

You does not really start modelling now and so it makes no difference if you change the tool.

I do the modelling in Wings 3D, and the rest in Blender. It's just a way more siple and powerful tool when it comes to modelling. At least, I think it is. :)

In rts game design modeling is not such a big roblem....but your texture must be very good, because the model hasn't much polys and this you must solve with a good texture...

You cuold say 30min for modeling, 2h for texturing...

Hehe, yea Blender is a very difficult program at start. It certainly has a steep learning curve, but you will get the hang of it sooner or later. You can hardly go without tutorials. And it will turn out to be quite good.

But yea, enough of that. Umm, well, we first check who is "we", whether it contains a texturer, and whether we are ready
(and willing) to start on this project. Me thinks.  ::)

You are confused Falk5T? ;)
Yes, Blender has quite another philosophy than Milkshape. But you tried http://de.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_Dokumentation  ?
For modelling itself Wings3D is maybe quite better. But it is open source, too, an inteacts with blender relatively good.
Before starting the gamecreation we should make a more detailed concept I think.

Agreed, we shouldn't go and create units randomly. We should have a tech tree or something.. I created a bit of tech tree for a faction a long while ago, I'm not sure whether it matches the concept though (if there is a clear concept already).

Hey nice model, but say a bit more about it... i think you use blender, but how many tris this object has? and how big is the texture? Uv-mapping seemed to be a bit false, the stone bottom is very blurry, but nice start (i think better than my church ^^) And i think you only has to model one missile extra (the missile of the airship is also an extra model...)

Do you want to make a complete different mod, something like C&C?

Tris would be very interesting.

BTW: Try to make your screenshots a little bit more small sized. :D
