Svn mg slower than the stable version
« on: 9 June 2013, 13:15:10 »
Hi all, playing the svn i can see that it's way slower than the stable version, this sounds strange and talking to titi he told me that i may be caused by a bug in mg for windows 64 and asked me to report my hardware specs, so that's what i am going to do:

Processor: AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core QL-64 2.10 GHz
Video Card: ATI 3200
Installed memory (RAM): 4gb (3,75gb usable)
Operative system: Windows 7 professional N, 64bit Service Pack 1

On the 3.7.1 i get up to 40fps in render, while the svn up to 25, but in general the game tend to reach 5fps in render quickly (i use the "windowed" mode with both stable and svn).

Anyone on windows 7 64bit who is experiencing slowness with the svn? (various revs).

Can you please run the Benchmark scenario from the ingame mod center?
Please post your results for  3.7.1 and svn version .
( If your gfx driver has any vsync setting to limit the frame rate, please disable them before running the benchmark )

( Here are my results on Linux 64. You see they are also a bit slower with current svn version.
3.7.1 has 214 fps
svn has 203 fps  )

More testing Windows 7 64 bit intel gfx:
my results for 3.7.1: 39-40 fps
current svn: 36 fps

Now I try to modify the scenario until I get results that are even more worse. Maybe thats a first hint on what might be wrong.

Rev 4412 on Windows 7 64-bit:

Update FPS: 39; Average render FPS: 121

3.7.1:

Update FPS: 40; average render FPS: 249

More than half of the frame rate gone!

On a side note, I noticed the beginning of the game had a noticeable stutter in the SVN HEAD. The fire golem animations visible near the edge of the screen stuttered for the first few seconds before smoothing out.

Also, the particles on the fire golems (and possibly other units) were completely bugged. The SVN HEAD doesn't appear to be displaying unit particles correctly.

Try svn head again that build # was a bad revision.

Rev 4413:

Render frame rate has not improved. Still the same halved levels. The particles are fixed. The screen had a black flicker several times when testing.

Rev 4414:

Ubuntu 12.04    (64bit)
Nvidia geforce 650ti
AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor

3.7.1:    208fps
Rev 4114:  240fps

For me its a lot faster now than 3.7.1, but I still have tiny black flickers especially in the beginning of multiplayer games. ( I have those flickers since colorpicking was improved by softcoder( a long time ago, but after 3.7.1). Its not related to my work on the colorpicking code ).

I've experienced no change in r4430.

Is there any way I can build past revisions to try and narrow down when a change occured that caused this slow down? I know how to checkout a specific revision, but can't figure out how to compile it, since the windows batch script automatically download the SVN HEAD when run.

After checking out manually from the mk/windoze folder run:

msbuild /p:Configuration=Release Glest_vc2010.sln

3.7.1   render: 40   update 22
r4472  render: 39   update 24
r4474  render 40:   update 27
I translated Megaglest in italian and i keep the translation updated.
