Tech High Quality Texture Pack! [Updated with Pics]

I'm gonna leave this download link here: Tech HD Textures

I doubled the resolution and enhanced a lot of the textures for tech. This is(a present for the graphics whores :-*) for people who play at decent resolutions where especially buildings tend to look blurry from the regular camera distance, even with max settings enabled. I have definitely noticed an improvement when I play.

All materials I used to enhance the textures I obtained from either burningwell.org or other sites. I checked usage rights everywhere and only selected from sites where I was allowed to use as I wish. I didn't need too much so this was easy. I consider these textures to be under the same license as the original Glest textures(someone know what that is?). Please credit Tucho, he's the one who made the base textures(afaik), I don't care if I'm credited or not.

If you can make textures like that for the rest of megapack, who needs new models when we could just have hi res textures.

I'd much rather finish redesigning the Megapack, and I am pursuing plans to do so. ;)

HInt Hint: MegaGlest can do this conversion via commandline :D ( --convert-models )

I try it ( and I already think it is good! ) and then we must discuss when we want to check it in and add it to the official game .

hm, psd is a quite proprietary format so I think that doesn't help too much and I don't want any proprietary things in our svn.

about the commandline thing:  Just start a dos window and start megaglest.exe from there like this:

megaglest.exe --help

This will list you all the commandline parameters MG knows.

Well I used photoshop to enhance the textures, I can export to any other format just name it.

The gimp doesn't read layer properties and effects from PSD, just a warning.

I have gimp. :P I just used photoshop cause it's miles easier for handling selections, masks and color correction.

I'm currently exporting the psd's to tif files with layers, I hope that will be easier to handle.

now I started with this texture improvement too :) . I use your stuff as a base, mixed with original pictures. I will report back if I am ready.

I noticed that the barracks and castle texture aren't in, and some of the improvements I made to other models seem to not be there. I also noticed weird blockiness, it almost looks like minecraft..
Other than that it looks great man! :D

The possibilities to sharpen a blurry picture are limited, I did my best but when you zoom in now you sometimes see this minecraft effect. Compare these parts to the original texture and you will see a huge difference.
About the things I did not use from you, I thought they did not really fit to the other textures in these cases :-( . Maybe I missed something ?

For example the Blacksmith roof was much too sharp and regular compared to the the rest of the texture. ANd the beer barrels were too bright ( in my opinion )

Titi, you're over-sharpening low resolution images.  :P The barrel texture was a bit bright I agree, but you can change that in 5 seconds. My point for putting it there is the fact that it is taken from a large source image and is truely 512 resolution.
If you're not going to use/color correct the higher resolution imagery, then you should scale it back to 256 cause I believe that is why it looks so blocky now.

I know that I am oversharpening some things. The problem is that its hard to tell if its not better with the oversharped thing.
For the horseman it clearly looks better to me than the original texture. I iwll try to paint a bit manually to fix some of the annyong block parts. 
For the blacksmith I will try again. and maybe paint some things manually too or I use your roof texture and modify it ... whatever, we will see.

For what it's worth, I both agree that the barrels were too bright, and that it would be good to have those darkened instead of keeping what we had.

Titi you should release the faction with just the textures in the proper folders the way I did. A lot of people like to mod Tech I'm sure, I know I do. Your download will overwrite the entire faction. :look:
