[done] Game Timer
« on: 15 December 2013, 23:30:10 »
Hello Glesters!

I would like to suggest the addition of a game timer. I'm sure others would like it too, and it's even been requested before, albeit in a thread about something else so I'm making a new thread just for this.

This is a really nice feature, but could we exstend it to have a "game time elapsed" too?.

This would be really nice!
This. I really hope this will be added soon, it's really very useful to have, much more so than a time-of-the-day clock. Right now it's necessary to hit '?', and then use the frame count divided by 2400 to get the amount of seconds that have elapsed. Too much trouble for something one would use all the time.

So pleeeeease add a counter 0:00 that counts up in seconds once the game begins. I'd really appreciate it.

Do you mean the setting in 3.9.0 in the options menu under the MISC tab that reads: Display real and game time?

I believe he wants that game duration clock on the game over screen to be accessible in-game (I think the pause menu would be a good place).

I want a timer that starts at 0:00 when the game begins and is *visible* all the time. It counts up in seconds as the game progresses. I don't want it to be hidden in the pause screen.

That'd be the third clock we display. I already find the real world clock questionable if it displays by default (I forgot whether it does).
But if it can be added as an option then I guess it's fine. I just don't get the purpose / use case, and it wasn't explained so far. Why would you need to see the time elapsed in the running game?

This is a really good idea!, I also find that this clock is much needed, The ingame clock is btw, Totally useless.(for me at least).

It would be nice in the format hr:min:sec

so.

00:12:45

Would be 0 hours and 12 minutes and 45 seconds into a game.

I think too that the currently displayed times are not too useful. I would appreciate a frame based counter displaying the time the current game already lasted like the thread starter wanted it.
This is useful if you think about the need of new resource places and so on .

Current real time is not related to the game anyway and the in game world time does not help playing the game, as day/nighttime has just a visual effect in the game.

The clock now shows game duration instead of game time as that is more relevant. This applies for git HEAD.

Awesome!

Being completely unfamiliar with git, how do I get my version updated? Or should I just wait for the next version and download it then?

Anyway, thanks so much. It's going to be extremely utile.

There are no nightly builds available at the moment, so you will have to wait for the next update or try to build it yourself.

I think the text is too long now -- it doesn't fit in the area under the minimap.

The real time is not necessary since most people probably have another clock available.  The text "Game duration" is probably also not necessary since it's rather obvious what a counter that starts at 00:00:00 and increments every second is.
