I'd like to tinker with this game...

To create a new unit, do I need to do more than place the appropriate resource file in the right directory?

Yes it is. You can modify the game without writting a single line of code.

Cool but I dont understand how to make a unit or make them even look different and I dont have the software anyways  :-[
