Annoying "feature"
« on: 7 November 2005, 04:10:09 »
If I'm trying to select a building (with an Initiate) to build and any of my units come under attack the building menu goes back to the main selection menu.

Anyone else have this problem?

Only 1 unit can build a building at the same time, the others can repair it, that is slower. To do this click on build and select a place for the building, then one of the units will start the construction, after that select the remaining units and right click to repair it.

My problem is that when I select another unit to go and help the other build faster, they sometimes end up standing in the middle of the building being constructed instead of working.

Now that could be a feature designed to make the game more realistic, since that is what happens in real life, one guy working and several others sitting around doing nothing, however I'm thinking its probably a bug.

Could you make it so that when you click on the building, that it doesn't matter where you click on it, it sensing it everywhere?  Perhaps the collision is just around the edges, or something.  I think a simple mask would be easily enough to add.

Peasant 1 goes to work building a building.  He notices Peasant 2 arriving, him just standing around in the center of the build site doing nothing at all.
Peasant 2: "What?  The master said to come and stand right here.  He didn't say nothing about working.  And I ain't doing nothing unless I'm specifically told to.  We common folk aren't suppose to think for ourselves at all, and how dare you question the wisdom of a nobleborn!  If he says to do something, I do it, and I don't go trying to think about it."
;)

If you enjoy my lame attempt at peasant human, I wrote more junk like that in my review of the game at my electronic mental asylum of a forum. http://s8.invisionfree.com/Game_Maker_f ... try9967089

Nice work by the way.  Shows a lot of potential.

Hehe  :O

You've got to make sure you click on the building itself, some wood, stone, whatever that's lying there, not the ground. ^^ I do that and they're all working overtime

I always click on the ground in the center, instead of the outerwalls.
---

I just played a game and I realize now what the original poster was saying.

When I sent my knights charging down to slaughter my enemy, I tried to focus on my building back home.  But every time one of them got hit or hit something, the peasant I had selected would close its menu, time and again.  So when there is battle going on, you can't do anything else.

Send knights to fight enemy.  Click on a peasant.  Click on building list.  Before you can place a new building, that menu will close.

click "p" to pause game, give any order to that specific worker, and just hit "p" again to resume the game :p I pause game all the time, otherwise you're just losing time clicking around in build menus

Pausing

Should that be new to you other guys?

Pause the game and can give orders to every unit that you have at the same time, soooo useful in battles...

I always felt like that was cheating in RTS games.

I'd rather not have to use pause to play a game, and if multiplayer is ever implemented, it won't be feasible.

You shouldn't be able to do anything at all when you pause the game, except surrendering.

Come on don't be so strict... ;)

Besides, as long as my units don't obey my commands I'll pause as often as I want.
