Can I compile glest on 64 & 32bit Ubuntu, & do multi
« on: 6 March 2008, 00:59:45 »
Is it possible to compile the Glest source code on one computer (64bit), and compile it on another computer (32bit)(both computers have Ubuntu Linux 7.10) and play multiplayer between the two? And if not HOW did the "Loki" people do it? http://liflg.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=906

All I know is I used THAT package, and installed it on both my computers and it all worked fine. (well basicly see this post for more info) http://www.glest.org/glest_board/viewtopic.php?t=3306

BUT when I compiled the "3.1.2" source code on both my computers, and then tried playing a multiplayer game, it did NOT work, it said that the server and client version didn't match, (even though they do! (version 3.1.2)).

So could anybody help me on this, I want to use 3.1.2, but there is no "official" binary for 64bit, and as far as I can see I can't compile it myself and get multiplayer working. (but I could be wrong) So please let me know how to do this.

The problem is that we can not guarantee that 32bit and 64bit binaries (or windows-linux) wouldn't get out of sync, so we check that you are using exactly the same binaries.

If you want to play anyway (THE GAME MIGHT GET OUT OF SYNC AND CRASH), just set NetworkConsistencyChecks to 0 in glest.ini, this will allow you to play windows-linux32bit-linux64bit
