I want to refactor Glest source codes
« on: 8 January 2009, 12:09:03 »
Hi All,
I am a senior developer in C++ and like Glest very much. I downloaded the source codes of Glest and find the source codes can be refactored more better. How can I get the permission to modify the source codes? What should I do?

Anyone has permission to modify and distribute the code since it is under GPL. But your help would be most appreciated in the Glest Advanced Engine project. Let us know what you want to do in the Glest Advanced Engine category if you want to help out.

Welcome to the forums btw.

Thank you for your reply. You mean I have permission to modify the code and check in the modification to svn?

Hi,
The original glest team doesn't have enough time to develop glest any more and I think they don't want anybody new in their team, because its their baby.
They opened code(GPL) and data(every license with credits) to make it possible for others to continue their work.
If you want to modify /restructure the code ( and maybe add some features :) ) you either go with the GAE (Glest Advanced Engine) code, or you make your own branch. It's up to you which way you go, but I'm always happy to see new c++-developers here to create glests future.

( When I started "glesting" I concentrated on the content of glest, because I thought this was the biggest thing missing .You can see the things I made here: http://www.titusgames.de )
Try Megaglest! Improved Engine / New factions / New tilesets / New maps / New scenarios
